Teaching. Do you have what it takes?

We are urgently looking for a student teacher or qualified teacher to volunteer for three months (although a shorter time period is also available) at a school in South Africa.

There are six boys aged between 14 and 17 that require tutoring 5 days a week 8am to 2pm. You must be fluent in Maths and English, as you will be supervising the Cambridge Education IGSCE and HGSCE system. (this is equivalent to th UK GSCE and A-levels).

You'll be working and living in Knysna forest, approximately 13kms from Knysna, along the famous tourist area of the Garden Route in South Africa, staying in self catering accommodation. You'll be transported each day to and from your accomodation to your place of schooling by SAN Parks, who will also supply your food for you.

Every Friday you will be picked up by your co-ordinator, Bruce Kietzmann, who will take you to Ingwe - your home from home at weekends. Ingwe is situated just 15 minutes from Plettenberg Bay, where you can take advantage of the magnificent beaches, forest hikes, whale and dolphin watching, water sports and extreme activities! Your breakfast and dinner at weekends will be also be supplied by Ingwe....one less thing for you to worry about! You will also have the chance to get involved in other volunteer projects whilst you are there.

On your programme, you will be asked to keep a diary each week of your progress. You'll also have the opportunity to be taught some of the local Xhosa language and be given history and culture lessons to help you understand the issues and situations that your students may face.

This is an extremely rewarding position and requires your skills to work with others and more importantly your enthusiasm to help make a difference to these boys' lives.

Your donation: £1600

This includes;

  • All meals on week days
  • Breakfast and evening meals on weekends
  • Local transfers to and from the airport
